Who would have thought I would be so blessed to be experiencing all I am just through following my heart. I really had no idea why I was going to Utah State, but there is no way I would experience all the things I have! I just got back from NACURH (that stands for “National Association of College and University Residence Halls, Incorporated”) which was in Tucson Arizona this year. I had so much fun and learned so much. I met people from all around the nation and also delegates from Australia, Canada, and Mexico! It was huge, and the best thing was we were all so different but had so much in common! I met one girl from Minnesota and during a exercise we were supposed to find one thing in common… it took us 5 mins, but we both are the middle of 3 children with a younger sister and an older breathe NAMED BEN… can you imagine that?!
The most exciting part was presenting. I was the only first year delegate to present 2 programs. And my first one was in the second session. I had never resented a program in my life so I was really nervous, and the girl I presented with hadn’t ever done one either. So we sat through our first programs taking notes on what not to do. I don’t know if I learned a whole lot in that one but I met people in that program. My first program was on body image and helping our residents celebrate our uniqueness. It turned out great! The guys even liked it and there was lots of interaction! I was really proud of myself. My second program was the 4th session and I was a little more clam, until I had to ask people for their shoe. That program was on rape and sexual aggression, it was a very touchy topic but we presented it in a lighter way. That program was really loved and our advisers thought we might have gotten a top 40 after looking at your reviews! We didn’t get the top 40, but it was okay because we enjoyed the experience and were so drained that we took a nap when top 40 was presenting.
All in all I had a great week and am so close with my staff I am working with over the school year. We had such a great bonding experience and I can’t wait to do it again. We have decided that conferencing is like an addictive drug (except good for you grandma)… you don’t sleep and you can’t get enough!
