Showing posts with the label My Life Sounds Like

Note To Self:

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything! And even longer since I’ve posted anything super personal- There is so much you can get out of music. There is an amazing connection you can feel through it. The lyricism and melody speak in a way basic words just cannot, so a lot of times I let the music tell my story. If my current life were a movie, this would be the soundtrack, was the assignment that I just continue. So, here’s my post. It’s short and simple, except not. Because right now my life is messy, complicated, and really confusing. My Life Sounds Like: 1.        Cheers to the Fall -Andra Day 2.        Save Myself -Ed Sheeran 3.        FEEL. -Kendrick Lamar 4.        Details in the Fabric (Feat. CYG: Mourning Ritual

Day 2: Mourning Ritual I have always thought my life should be a movie, even when I was little. I was SO dramatic as a child (my family is reading this now thinking, “You still are…”). Now, in my adult life, things happen to me and I look around for the hidden camera, because seriously? THIS.CAN’T.BE.REAL.LIFE! I hope you read that with hand claps. My life could be a comedy, drama, at times an action, and I’m a walking chick flick. Maybe, that’s why I wasn’t usually phased the mentioning of houses being bugged, because my house should have had hidden cameras (yeah, I have also taken up satire). Anyway, the reason I bring this up is because, just like my overly dramatic life, all good movies have a soundtracks. My soundtrack goes back to my favorite assignment given to me my freshman year in college. Pick 15 songs that you relate most to and write a paragraph about how you relate. I don’t still write about how they relate, but I still keep a rotating list of 15 songs that relate mo...

My Life Sounds Like

My favorite assignment I was ever given was one from my second semester in college. It was in Eng1020, and the assignment was called “My Life Sounds Like.” This assignment was given back when it was still cool to make someone a CD… Well barely in the time. I think it was probably the last CD I made, actually. The assignment was to make a playlist of songs (I think there were about 15 on it) that tell someone about your life. We then had to write a paragraph about each song diving into the lyrics. I loved that it gave me the opportunity to hide behind a song yet truly look into my life and discover what was truly going on.  I don’t really know what was on that CD, because once you made it you picked a partner (mine was picked for me because I was convientely in Washington DC for the Inauguration of Barrack Obama on the day of that class), and then gave it to them. I still have my partner’s CD though. I remember 3 songs though   Hakuna Matata (Baha Men- Disney Mania CD!) Laugh s...
